Counselling and Pastoral Care
The school has an extensive pastoral care system that involves teachers, boarding parents, class tutors, programme coordinators (MYP & Diploma Coordinators in the Secondary School), and administrators. Each student is allocated to a tutor group led by a class tutor. It is to the tutor or boarding parent that many students will first go with concerns (the class tutor if these concern their academic work or are tuition related, the boarding parent if concerns are of a residential nature).
The programme coordinator who has responsibility for all the students in a number of years, or the relevant administrator (Head of Secondary or Head of Boarding) may also be referred to on many issues.
| Boarding students will often further consult their boarding parent, both on personal issues and academic or related matters. Many students feel comfortable talking to one of their other teachers or one of the assisting boarding staff. |
The school also employs a University & Careers Guidance Officer who works in consultation with the Life Skills department and the programme coordinators. This individual’s role is to assist students throughout the college and university selection and admissions process.
Pastoral care at ISM is accomplished by surrounding each child with a web of support so that we are able to accommodate their needs and help them actualize their potential.
