Term ThreeClasses start for term three on Wednesday, 11th April at 7:30am. Boarders are expected to return on Tuesday between 12 noon and 5pm. Please advise the Head of Boarding as soon as possible if you need any assistance with travel arrangements.
Fees accountsOn 31st March all the ISM fees accounts were converted from Pounds Sterling to US dollars using that day's exchange rate of £1 = US$1.96. In future all parents will receive invoices and statements in US dollars, although payments can still be made in pounds or shillings as well as in dollars. Fees invoices for the 2007/08 school year will be sent to parents in the next week or two. Please contact us if you do not receive your invoice.
Overdue feesA few fees accounts are currently overdue. Please note that students may not be able to start school this term if fees payments are in arrears.
Class NamesWe have decided to rename our classes from the start of the new school year in August when nearly all of our students (except those in S5) will be IB students (either following the PYP, MYP or Diploma programmes). Kindergarten and P1-P6 will retain their present names; S1-S4 will be called M1-M4, and IB1-IB2 will be called D1-D2. The class names will then directly reflect the academic programme that the student is enrolled in at the school.
Strategic PlanningThe second meeting of the Strategic Planning Committee was held in March and the report from that meeting is available to dowload from our website at www.ismoshi.org/parentdocs. You will need to enter the username and password previously supplied to you.
Arrangements for IB2 and S5 studentsOur IB2 students will be taking written examinations in May and will receive their final results on 6th July. In order to give them sufficient time for independent study prior to exams, formal classes will end on Friday, 20th April. After that date teachers will still be available to assist students when needed. Day students will not be required to come to school and, if they choose not to, it will be assumed and expected that they will be studying at home. Boarders may remain in school and study in their rooms or the library or meet with teachers; alternatively, with parental consent, they may return home to study there. The Graduation Ceremony for the IB2 students will be on Saturday 26th May at 2pm. Parents of graduands will be invited to a dinner in Moshi the previous evening. Admission to both the dinner and the graduation ceremony itself will be by invitation only as there is limited space available. If you are not a parent of a graduating student and would like to receive an invitation to the ceremony, please let me know. The S5 students will finish their formal classes on Friday, 4th May. After that day their arrangements for school attendance are similar to those described above for the IB2 students. The end of this stage of the S5 students' education will be marked by a ceremony in Karibu Hall on Friday, 1st June at 3pm and will be followed by refreshments for the S5 students and their families.
Parents Committee MoshiThe Moshi parents committee will be holding their monthly meeting at 7:45am on Tuesday, 24th April. As usual this will start with a parent's forum. If you wish to speak with PCM at this parents forum, please contact the PCM secretary, Nell Lindsay-Smith, before the meeting.
TOEFL RegistrationsThe final deadline to register online for the May TOEFL test is this Monday, 9th April. Details of how to register are available at www.ismoshi.org/SAT.htm. This test is strongly recommended for IB1 students for whom English is not their mother tongue, who may be considering applying for college or university in North America. You will need a credit card to register and the fee is $140. If a student needs help to register and/or pay, please contact Keiron White before 8th April. Late registrations are not possible for TOEFL tests.
SAT registrationsOnline registrations for SAT tests in May have now closed. However it is still possible for a small number of students to take the test as standby candidates if spare papers are available. There are additional costs involved in standby registration. Students who need to do this should contact Mrs Beveridge, the university guidance counsellor, as soon as they return for term three.
