International School Moshi Moshi Campus News - 30th August 2008
Dear Parents,
It was a pleasure to see so many parents and teachers at the Parent Association picnic this afternoon. Thanks to all who were able to join us and especially to the folks at TPC for their hospitality.
M1 Campcraft
Some other guests at the PA picnic were the M1 students from both campuses who are engaged in a campcraft weekend, camping and walking at TPC. This trip is designed to teach them the basic skills of camping and to give them an early taste of outdoor pursuits trips. We hope that they will want to take the opportunity to join other OP trips later this term.
Ramadan
The Islamic Holy Month of Ramadan will start in a few days time and during this month many of our Muslim students will be fasting. We have put in place arrangements to help our boarders with this, but if any parent has any questions about these arrangements, please contact our senior boarding parent, Sunita Somaiya, on .
Diploma Art Trip
Many of the Diploma Visual Arts students will be travelling to Nairobi on 4th September to visit galleries and to enhance their art experience in Nairobi over the weekend. They will be returning on 7th September.
Boarding Fees
As many parents of primary and MYP students will know, a year ago the School offered free boarding to new students joining in those classes and paying the full tuition fee. This has been a very successful move and all our secondary boys boarding places are now full. We still have space for girls in secondary boarding and for both boys and girls in primary boarding. The increased numbers have done much to make the whole of the boarding experience far better for our students as well as supporting the school in general. However this special fees offer will shortly end, and from 15th September, new applicants to boarding in primary or M1-M5 will be charged an annual boarding fee of $4000. If you know of families who are planning to enrol primary students or secondary girls into boarding, please advise them to do so before 15th September. The new charge will not apply to those who have already been admitted to the school.
Goal Setting in Primary
We’d like to thank all parents for your time and effort to discuss and assist your child in their goal setting task. Students were to have returned their goal setting sheets today. Students who still need more time have until Monday to return their goal sheets.
Primary Clubs
Students should now know the times and clubs that they have signed up for. All students are expected to attend those clubs until the end of the term.
P1/P2 Class Trip
P1/2 students enjoyed their visit to the Masaai village at Majango Magadini on Thursday, where Nicoli effectively used his bilingual skills to translate for the whole class.
Primary Assemblies
Next week, 5th September, we look forward to the P5/6 assembly. Assemblies are on Friday mornings in Room 15 from 7:45am to 8:15am unless otherwise stated.
Primary Athletics
Our school Athletics Day will be held on Tuesday 30th October, an event which students in the Athletics club will be looking forward to.
Primary Planning Meetings
We would like the Primary parents to be aware that all the Primary teachers are usually involved in 2 planning meetings with their counterparts on the Arusha campus during the term. We have tried to schedule these on different days so that there is no need for more than two teachers to be away at the same time. This year we have set up curriculum review committees which include both primary and secondary teachers who may be meeting initially once a term.
P1/P2 Pick-ups
For safety reasons, P1/2 students who travel home by car will be accompanied to the car park by Grace (P1/2 Teaching Assistant). If there are changes in transport arrangements etc. please inform the class teacher as soon as possible. If your child is going to be picked up from the classroom please be punctual. Students need to let Grace or Ms. Rosi know if no one has picked them up so we can contact parents.
Clothing Labels
Please label your child’s belongings so that they are easy to identify, particularly during swimming and sports. The Lost Property box is now with the receptionist, Anita at the main office.
Nationalities on Moshi Campus
This term we have students from 32 different nationalities on the Moshi Campus alone:
Due to an attack from spammers on our server in the USA, the ISM website was unavailable on Friday, 29th August. I hope that it is now working fully again and that we don't suffer a repeat attack.
