International School Moshi Moshi Campus News - 27th September 2008 |
|
Dear Parents, We wish both the ISM Moshi Campus and Arusha Campus teams success in today's inter-schools athletics tournament being held on the Arusha Campus. Thank you to Mama Mvungi, Madame Laborde and all the students who participated in yesterday's Language B primary assembly. The confidence and creativity displayed by students in their presentation was really encouraging. There are only three days of classes now left before we break for nearly two weeks in October. Please read below our arrangements for the coming week. Website Additions
Many of our diploma students did a great job last weekend clearing a car park and planting bananas at the Life in Africa children's home. Thanks to them and to all the teachers who joined them for the trip. Pictures are now posted on the school website.
. Idd el Fittr
Next week there will be two days of national holiday to celebrate the end of the holy month of Ramadan. ISM will be holding classes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 29th September to 1st October, and this will not change if different days are announced for a public holiday. There are no classes on Thursday or Friday, 2nd/3rd October and the school office will also be closed on Thursday and Friday. Muslim students who need to celebrate Idd earlier, may of course be excused school to do so. Otherwise we would expect all students to attend school up to Wednesday.Wednesday, 1st October
There will be classes and an assembly for all students on Wednesday, 1st October from 7:30am to 10:15am. After this time students will be free to return home. From 10:35 to 12 noon there will be meetings for parents of secondary students and their teachers in Karibu Hall, aimed at providing an opportunity for you to discuss your child's progress with his/her teachers. Please try to attend to meet with teachers - no advance sign-up is needed.Primary class teachers will also meet with parents from 10:35 to 12 noon - please sign up for a specific time with the class teacher. In order to create enough time for all parents, some classes will also have time slots for interviews starting from 7.30am on Wednesday. This is an opportunity for parents to quickly discuss any concerns they may have or get feedback from teachers about their child’s progress. If there is a need for a more detailed discussion parents are most welcome to make an appointment with the primary class teacher next term. Primary Athletics Day (30th September)
Thank you to all parents who have volunteered to be parent helpers during our rotations on Sports Day on Tuesday. The rotations begin at 9.00 and should end by 10.15am. Parent helpers will accompany their child’s group and record achievements on each child’s certificate in their group. The programme starts at 8.00amPlease make sure that your child has:
Primary Poolside Lunch - Tuesday
This year we have organised a shared lunch in response to suggestions made last year by our parents to end the Primary Athletics day with students having a swim. Instead of organising a barbeque, we have opted for a pot luck lunch from 12:00 to 13:05 where parents, teachers and primary students bring lunch to share. In the spirit of PYP, all food will be set up on a main table for everyone to share.Modelling the Learner Profile
This term the primary teachers have been providing learning experiences and developing strategies with students to help them understand and portray the attributes of the Learner Profile through the units of inquiry. Students are being encouraged to be Caring, Reflective and Principled Communicators when resolving conflicts in and out of the classroom. This is a vital step in our (teachers' and students') attempts to create a safe and happy learning environment. To develop and reinforce this concept within the school community we would appreciate parents’ support in modelling the Learner Profile when dealing with students and support staff concerning student welfare. Any concerns about behaviour between students at school should be brought to the class teacher’s attention and left to the class teachers to resolve with both students and parents if the need arises. As always we encourage parents to drop in and share concerns or seek clarification about programmes or their child’s progress. Secondary Reports
All secondary students in M1 to D1 will receive a one page interim report on their child's progress and students in D2 will received a more detailed full report. These reports will be issued to students on Monday, 29th September.Half Term Holiday Travel
Please ensure that your child's boarding parent knows how your child will be travelling for half term on 1st October and returning on 14th October. All boarders are expected to return before 6pm on Tuesday, 14th October. If you need any help with travel arrangements, please contact Sunita Somaiya on . Classes will re-start at 7:30am on Wednesday, 15th October.Permission Slips
Before your child participates in any school trip, we ask day students to obtain permission from their parents using a permission slip. Please read this slip and any accompanying letter carefully before signing and please ensure that you have given us all appropriate medical and other information. If a student has been ill just before a trip or may be ill during the trip, we do need to know this. Boarders' permission slips will be signed by their boarding parents following guidelines given on the parental consent forms.Summit Magazine Advertisements
ISM publishes a colour glossy school magazine called The Summit twice per year, which is distributed to all ISM families on both campuses as well as to embassies and other international organisations. If you would like to advertise your company or business in The Summit, please contact Kate Robertson on before 14th October to discuss details of advertising in the December edition.US Consular Services
The United States Embassy will be providing consular services to US citizens on ISM Arusha Campus on Tuesday, 30th September and on Moshi Campus on Wednesday, 1st October (times to be announced). On this occasion they will also be providing voting services for the upcoming presidential election.Kilimanjaro Rugby Sevens
