I am writing to tell you that I have accepted the Director position at the International School of Phnom Penh in Cambodia for next school year. I have mixed feelings about this decision, but I feel it makes sense for our family at this time in our lives together.
I have felt privileged to lead ISM for the past five years and to have the opportunity to get to know many of your wonderful children. They have made me and the school proud on too many occasions to recount here. I believe the future for your children and for ISM looks very bright indeed. Our overall enrolment is increasing after years of decline. We have the best educational programme on offer in the world which is taught by an amazing group of dedicated professional teachers. We have a fantastic Outdoor Pursuits Programme that is the envy of schools everywhere. Our CAS programme has a worldwide reputation for excellence that attracts schools from all over the world to visit Tanzania every year.
The Parent's Association have actively supported our "One school with two campuses" philosophy and this has helped to slowly bring our communities back together. I have enjoyed the support of the ISM Board throughout my time here and I am grateful for their wisdom and stewardship of the school during times of change. I am confident that the Board will select an excellent educational leader to replace me.
I have enjoyed the quiet dignity of the Tanzanian people I have come to know in the past five years and I feel honoured to have been a guest in their country. I want to thank the many parents who supported me professionally and personally through the changes I felt were necessary to transform ISM into the kind of school our children deserve. At times that showed a lot of courage and you have done the most to make the school a better place. There is still a lot of work to do this year and it will be my goal to ensure a very smooth transition to the next leader of your school.
