International School Moshi Moshi Campus News - 19th December 2008
Dear Parents,
The school is now quiet and nearly all students have left for their holidays. It has been a busy and active term for many including numerous Outdoor Pursuits trips, recent M3/M4 and boarding trips, an action-packed Sports Weekend (in which we were really pleased to beat all-comers in the swimming gala), a great Primary Christmas production, and a thoroughly enjoyable drama Play On, to name only a few of the recent events. M5 students have presented their Personal Projects to the M4s, and D2 students have completed their Extended Essays, Maths Studies Projects, other pieces of coursework, as well as having worked hard on university applications. Next term promises to be equally busy but meanwhile, I would like to wish you all a very enjoyable Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing every one back in Moshi on 13th January (boarders) or 14th January (day students).
Christmas Craft Fayre
Many thanks to all the stall holders and to those of you who attended and spent money at our Christmas Craft Fayre last Saturday. TSh 250,000/- was raised and this has now been given to Mama Lynn of 'Light in Africa' where it will be spent on food for nearly 600 street-children/orphans.
Wishing you a very happy Christmas. Sandra Riches
School Office Holidays
The school main office will be closed from Wednesday, 24th December to Thursday, 1st January inclusive. Otherwise the office will be open during the holiday on weekdays from 7:30am to 5pm.

The swimming pool will be open throughout the holidays for students and other card holders, but will be closed on December 25th and 26th and on January 1st. Times will be posted on the notice board outside the pool.

Early Departures from School & Late Returns
We have been concerned about the number of students who needed to leave school early this term and, in particular, by the number of such situations in which parents did not advise us in advance. Lessons were planned for the last couple of days of school and students who missed those will be at a disadvantage. In particular many D2 students did not receive the advice or practice materials that teachers gave their classes in the last couple of days in preparation for their mock exams on January 19th. I would like to request that all students return on time for the new school term and, in circumstances where this is simply not possible, could parents please advise us by email well in advance?
Term Two
Classes next term will start on Wednesday, 14th January at 7:30am. Boarders should arrive in school by 5pm on Tuesday, 13th January. Please advise Sunita Somaiya in plenty of time if your child will need to be met at the airport. We would request that all students return to school on time so that valuable teaching time is not missed.
On Thursday, 15th January there will be a meeting for parents of M4 students to introduce you to the MYP Personal Project. More details of this meeting will be sent out later.
Our D2 students will be taking mock (practice) examinations from January 19th to 23rd and our M5 students will also be taking examinations at that time. These students will therefore need to allow some time during the holidays to prepare for this examination week.
Fees payments
Most parents pay school fees by direct transfer or credit to one of our bank accounts. If you are doing so, please advise the accounts office on of the bank to which payment has been made, the date of payment, the currency and amount. At present we are receiving credits which we cannot identify because payers have not given us this information. In the case of payments through banks in Tanzania, it is helpful if you can fax (027-2752877) or email us a copy of the paying-in slip.
Secondary Reports
Most secondary students have now received their reports. If you would like to receive a digital copy, please email me and I will try to send this to you soon. In cases where students' fees are overdue, we have had to withhold some reports until payment is received.
Website Workshops
The last workshop in web page creation takes place tomorrow:
Dec 20, 10-12 am: Finishing Touches
Participation is free, and limited to individuals connected to ISM (parents, teachers, students, etc.).
