Dear Parents,
I wanted to write and wish you all a Happy New Year now that Term 2 at ISM is well under way. I hope you had a very relaxing time with your family during the break. Our teachers and students appear to be well-rested and are already well into their work. I want to wish the M5 and D2 students the best of luck during their assessment week next week and I know many of our students wisely used part of their holiday to prepare for these examinations.
We start Term 2 with good news on many fronts. Here are just a few of the highlights:
- We received the M5 PSAT results and many of our students performed very well on the test, which is an excellent preparation for the SATs next year;
- We have 12% more students in ISM than in January 2008;
- Arusha student numbers have increased and we are now above budget for the year;
- We have installed a new generator on Arusha Campus to sort out power fluctuations;
- Moshi Campus total enrolment is at its highest since 2001;
- Our boarding numbers on Moshi Campus are higher than at any time in the history of the school; and
- The Board has approved an 8-room expansion of the Kivuli boarding house to make room for 16 additional students next school year and the construction will begin next week.
Our hiring process for next school year has been underway since last October and those of you who monitor our job postings on the school website will notice our list of openings steadily shrinking. We have already hired seven qualified teachers with international experience who will be a great fit for our school and community. We have also hired a new Development Officer, Chinta Beez.
The Search process to replace me as Director (the Board has decided to change the CEO title) is also well under way and the Board is meeting to clearly define the search process to allow them to select the best possible candidate. I expect that a group of Director candidates and their spouses will be invited for interview around the last week of February, but that has yet to be confirmed by the Board. We will keep you posted on the process as it evolves.
Welcome back to school!
Best Regards,
Barry Sutherland
