Dear Parents,
Our M5 students have now finished their exam week and the D2s have one day left of their mock examinations. The D1 class returned from successful field studies in Pangani last week. The term is contiinuing well.
M4 Field Study
Due to unforeseen staffing considerations, the M4 trip to Kolo which had been planned for February 3rd will no longer go ahead. We are currently discussing an alternative focus and location for the M4 field study trip which will now take place later in the year.
ISA Tests
On 3rd and 5th February we will be administering ISA [International Schools Assessment] tests to students in the P5, M1 and M3 classes on both campuses. These standardised tests are intended to help us measure our students and our teaching programmes against those of other international schools. Students are not expected to prepare for the tests in any way and we intend to make the process as simple as possible for them. If you would like to read more about the tests that we took in 2008, please go to www.ismoshi.org/isaacer.htm.
M1 Field Study
M1 students from both campuses will be undertaking Field Study at Manyara and Eyasi in the week beginning February 9th. More details will follow shortly.
Counselling
A reminder that our school counsellor, Dr Bonaventura Balige, is available for student consultations without appointment every Tuesday from 3pm to 5pm. He is also available for additional consultations by appointment.
Phones and Valuables
A few valuable items went missing in school last week and we held a brief assembly on Thursday for M1-M4 students to discuss this with them. Students are strongly advised to keep all valuables (eg phones, mp3 players, cameras, usb memory sticks, etc) either on their person or locked in their locker (day students) or bedroom (boarders). In particular valuables should not be left lying on tables, in bags left around the campus, or in changing rooms. Although we will do what we can to try to recover lost items, students themselves are personally responsible for their own belongings and the school cannot accept liability in case of loss or theft.
Maulid Holiday
The Maulid holiday is provisionally scheduled early in March but the date of the national holiday is dependant upon the sighting of the moon. In ISM we have decided to celebrate Maulid on Monday, 9th March. This means that there will be no classes on Monday, 9th March, but there will be classes as usual on Tuesday, 10th March and on other days that week, irrespective of when the national holiday is declared.
New Director Search
All applications for the position of Director of ISM to replace Barry Sutherland in August are now in and the Board has formed a Search Committee consisting of Board members, parents and teachers to reduce the list of applicants to a short list for interview here in Moshi/Arusha. It is hoped that interviews will be held in late February.
Fees
You are reminded that for most parents who are paying fees by instalments, the third term fees are due by next weekend, 1st February. Please ensure that these are received by the school on time as our accounts office has been instructed to surcharge late payments.
Primary Assemblies
Below is the assembly schedule for the term. This week we have shifted our Friday assemblies to Karibu Hall because Room 15 has become too small. All assemblies will now be held in Karibu Hall from 7:45am to 8:15am unless otherwise stated.

Primary Afternoon Clubs
Students in P1-P6 had a trial week in the different clubs this week to decide which clubs they would prefer to participate in for the rest of the term. Updated club lists will be posted in the breeze way and students will be in those clubs for the rest of the term. We are enforcing the "no hat no play" policy for all students involved in any of the outdoor club activities. Please remind your child to have their hats at school.
