International School Moshi Moshi Campus Newsletter - 14th June 2009
Dear Parents,
If this is the first newsletter that you have received, welcome to our mailing list! We aim to publish this newsletter approximately every week during the school term time and it is delivered by email. If you would like to add further email addresses to the mailing list, please let me know at .
We are now heading into the last few days of school. Congratulations to the M1 students for their Fashion Show last week. The M5 students also enjoyed their team-building and orienteering exercises at TPC. And on Thursday our P6 students marked the end of their primary education with a restaurant dinner. Thanks to all parents who helped with the final primary assembly on Friday. Thanks also to the Parent Association who hosted a Teacher Appreciation evening for the Moshi teachers last Wednesday.
There is much happening in school at this time of the year, both inside class and outside, and we appeal to parents not to take their children out of school before the end of term on Wednesday, 17th June. Early departures significantly disrupt our ability to ensure that learning and other important activities continue successfully until the last day.
School Reports
All students will receive a full report at the end of this term. These will be given to secondary students on Tuesday, 16th June - in order to ensure that these are complete, we will NOT be able to issue any secondary reports before Tuesday. If you do not receive the printed copy of the report or if you would like to receive a digital copy in pdf format, please contact me on document.write(ecloak('keironw','ismoshi.net">keironw@ismoshi.net')); after 16th June.
We would like to ask all parents to encourage their children to read during the holidays. There are many books available in the school library which can be borrowed before the break and the library will also be open from 7:30am to 5pm on weekdays during the holiday. A suggested book list for holiday reading is available on www.ismoshi.org/read096.htm.
School Fees
We regret to inform families whose fees are still overdue that we will be unable to issue school reports or other documentation to your child at the end of this term. If you are unsure of the status of your fees account, please contact accounts@ismoshi.net to request a statement.
Fees for the new school year 2009/10 are due to be received by 1st July 2009. If you have not yet received an invoice, please contact our accounts office on .
Refundable Deposits
If your child is finally leaving ISM this term, you will want to know the procedure for handling the refundable deposit which you paid when your child first joined ISM. Our first task is to check that your child has returned all the books or equipment that has been loaned to him/her and this process is normally completed on their last day in school - we also need to verify that all school fees due have been paid.
If a sibling will be continuing in ISM next year, the deposit will be automatically credited to their own fees account. In this case you do not need to do anything.
Otherwise we ask you to complete a form which is available online at www.ismoshi.org/refund_deposit.pdf by clicking here and to return this to me either in printed form or by email. Deposits will be refunded according to your instructions in the same currency as that in which they were paid about 2 weeks after your child leaves ISM.
Summit Magazine
We will be giving printed copies of the June edition of the Summit magazine to all students on 16th June. If you would like to read The Summit before then, a digital copy is available to download from www.ismoshi.org/Download.htm.
Who Will Teach my Child in 2009/10?
We have now provisionally drawn up the teaching plans for 2009/10 and you can view this online at www.ismoshi.org/teaching0910.htm. This page lists all the teachers for all subjects and classes and includes small photos of each teacher. Please note that these details are provisional and may need to change before August.
School Handbooks for 2009/10
We have produced many new school handbooks for 2009/10 and these are all available from our Download page at www.ismoshi.org/Download.htm. Links to some of these are also given below.
School Calendar for 2009/10
For the school year 2009/10, ISM will change to a four quarter school year instead of a three term school year. This is reflected in the calendar for the first two quarters of the school year which is available to download from our Calendar page at www.ismoshi.org/Calendar.htm.
School opening hours during the holiday
During this school holiday, our library and computer room will be open to students from 7:30am to 5pm on Mondays to Fridays. The swimming pool is also open for use between 2pm and 6pm seven days a week. Our accounts office will also be open daily. However most teachers will be away during the break - if you have any questions concerning educational issues or your child's place in the school, please feel free to contact me by email on this address: throughout the holiday. I will respond as soon as possible.
IB Diploma Results
The IB Diploma results will be published to students on the afternoon of 6th July. Shortly thereafter we expect to publish a summary of the results on the school website at www.ismoshi.org/dip_result.htm.
Start of the New School Year
9th August: All boarding students should return to school by 6pm on Sunday, 9th August. Boarders joining ISM for the first time are asked to arrive by 3pm if possible. On this Sunday afternoon we hope that parents of new boarders will take the opportunity to meet with their child's boarding parent and join us for tea. If you would like us to meet your child from the airport, please send flight details to Sunita Somaiya on . 10th August: All day students should be in school by 7:30am on Monday, 10th August and should go to their tutor room (details and locations will be posted). There will be an extended tutor period in the morning to explain timetabling and various expectations.
M1 students will have a special orientation programme on that morning.
D1 students will have a two-day orientation programme; it is important that all D1 students attend this.
CAS Camp & Visiting Schools
During this holiday, the campus will be very busy as we host a large number of visiting school groups. Our first event is a CAS Camp which provides a base for visiting schools to undertake community service in the region. We are expecting 100 visitors to join us for the CAS Camp from 20th to 29th June from the following schools:
International School of Bern, Switzerland
Skagerak International School, Norway
American Academy for Girls, Dubai
International School of Basel, Switzerland
Tauntons College, England
Later in the holiday, other school groups are visiting us with individualised programmes of community service and safaris:
The New York Times calls Twitter "one of the fastest-growing phenomena on the Internet." Newsweek noted that "Suddenly, it seems as though all the world's a-twitter." So ISM is now twittering on twitter.com/ismoshi. Why not join us and follow ISM news?
