Dear Parents,
First I would like to thank those parents who were able to make the parent sessions on both campuses over the past weeks. I realize that it is difficult to put aside time especially during the work week. For those you were unable to attend, I would like to provide a quick over view of the main message that was delivered.
As we review the details of this year’s demographics, we find that the enrolment of ISM has fallen short of its expected level. This translates to less income. The bulk of the operational budget or expenses at ISM, as in most schools, are already committed whether through contracts, rental agreements or other fixed cost factors. So, with fewer students generating fees and the expenses already committed it is clear that ISM will run a deficit budget this school year. We will do our best to control costs; however we will not be able to make up the amount of the deficit.
What will be crucial at this point is planning for the coming year 2010/11. It is clear from school history that we can no longer operate with a deficit budget. This situation has been the major focus for the Operating Committee and the Governing Board.
We wish to keep you informed concerning school finances as the planning for next year is refined. To this end, we are already planning another round of parent information sessions; Fees, Finances and ISM. This meeting will provide information concerning the cost factors of ISM, where your tuition fee dollar goes and some of the trends that have resulted in where we are today. The next meetings are listed below:
Moshi - Tuesday, October 6th - Moshi Campus - 17:00
Arusha - Thursday, October 8th - Arusha Campus 13:30
As communication can be difficult, we ask that you check with other parents in the community to see whether or not they are aware of the meetings. Also, if there is a group of interested parents who cannot make the set dates and times, please contact one of the school offices and we will see if we can arrange to meet with that group. I also plan to send written information to parents after the above meetings have taken place.
