During the month of November the National Parks Authority allows school groups to undertake trips on Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro and we have a trip planned over every single weekend in November. The first of these is a trip to Mandara Hut - the first hut on Kilimanjaro at 2800m. This trip is designed for M1 students and older who wish to take part in their first walking trip on the mountains. It is an overnight trip leaving on Sunday, 1st November and returning on Monday afternoon 2nd November. The group has 10 students from each campus ranging from M1 to D1 as well as three teachers.Other upcoming Outdoor Pursuits trips are as follows:
MYP Information Evening
I would like to thank the parents who came last night for our MYP information evening. We had a very good interactive session at the end of which the parents could understand the criterion-based assessment and the Areas of Interaction - the main characteristics of the MYP. For the parents of boarders, I have put the power point slides on the website for your perusal at www.ismoshi.org/myp_presentation091029.pdf (750kb). Unfortunately, I cannot include the interactive exercises we did, but if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me. Kind regards, Jaimala Ramchurn MYP Coordinator Blood Drive
ISM, in conjunction with KCMC and Duke Women's Health Collaboration, will be holding a Blood Drive in Karibu Hall, ISM on Saturday 7th November from 11am to 4pm. KCMS needs to provide emergency blood supplies to Kilimanjaro, Tanga, Manyara, Arusha and Singida regions and urgently needs more blood. Please see the flier at www.ismoshi.org/Blood_Drive_2009.pdf with information on how you could help. If you have any questions about the Blood Drive, please contact Malavika Prabhu for more information: 0753024196 or .KiliKatz
Students of all ages on the campus are working hard to be ready for our presentation of the musical, KiliKatz on 3rd and 4th December. Attached, please find the schedule of rehearsal and performance times for the entire school. This rehearsal schedule is also available to download from www.ismoshi.org/kilikatz_rehearsals.pdf. The dates for you to note are: Wednesday, December 2nd from 2pm to 4pm. All cast (including primary students) are required to be at school during those hours for a matinée performance.
Additionally, Thursday, December 3rd and Friday, December 4th are the dates of the two evening performances and the cast (including primary students) will need to be in school from 5pm to 9:30pm on those days. Parents of children in P4 and below do have the option of taking their children home at the intermission time.As this is a large production, we need help with makeup and costumes. If you can assist us in this area, please contact your child's teacher, or the Drama teacher, Maggie Dobson. We have decided to keep the costumes simple. Details about costumes, including possible cost, will follow. Please direct all further questions to the primary teachers or to Maggie Dobson. SAT and TOEFL tests
SAT tests take place in school on Saturday, 7th November. Students have already completed registration for these tests, but some standby testing may be possible (for an additional fee) if additional test papers are available. The next SAT tests will be in May 2010.TOEFL tests take place in school on Saturday, 14th November - it is now too late to register for these tests and standby testing is not permitted. The ISM Website at www.ismoshi.org has experienced a number of problems with Google recently blocking access to the site. Google have reviewed the site many times and confirmed that it is "clean" and "without malware" but that it will take many days to remove site blocking. We are trying to work through these problems and hope that all will be working well soon. Meanwhile, please be assured that the site is not distributing malware! An alternative website is also available at www.ismoshi.com.US Embassy Warden Notice
The US Embassy has recently issued a warning about security in Dar es Salaam. Please click www.ismoshi.org/uswarden091029.pdf to read this notice.
