This has been yet another busy weekend, with a set of fantastic performances from our students at the Variety Show on Friday, closely followed by more performances at the International Festival in Arusha today. Thanks also to all the parents who helped at the International Festival. And congratulations to our very successful swimmers at the Arusha Swimming Gala this morning.
Outdoor Pursuits: Uhuru Peak
As this newsletter goes out, a group of mainly D2 students are on their way to the summit of Kilimanjaro and hope to reach there on Monday morning. We wish them all the best of success.
Meanwhile sign-ups took place in school last week for the next quarter's Outdoor Pursuits trips as follows:
18-19 April: Mandara Hut, Kilimanjaro - this Level One trip is ideal for younger secondary students and those entirely new to our OP programme
24-26 April: Little Meru - a Level Two trip to the smaller peak on Mout Meru.
29 April - 2 May: Mawenzi Hut, Kilimanjaro - a level Three trip to the base of Mawenzi - the lower pesak on Kilimanjaro.
8-11 May: Socialist Peak - a demanding level Four trip to the summit of Mount Meru.
World Maths Day
The Moshi Campus students performed amazingly in the World Maths Day event about 10 days ago. 219 students took part in the event and, between them, correctly answered 245,074 mathematical questions of different levels. Congratulations to our top five arithmeticians: Martin Kammleiter, Farhan Kanani, Stefan Kammleiter, Aika Lema and Lusajo Mwakijungu.
News from Primary
On Friday, 19th March primary students will be presenting items at their assembly to mark the World Theatre Day for Children. P3/4 and P5/6 will be doing Theatre Sports.
All Afternoon Clubs will continue until Thursday, 25th March.
We hope that all parents enjoyed sharing their children's learning during the Student-Led Conferences last Friday.
High School Musical
Arusha Campus secondary students will be staging performances of High School Musical in Arusha on Thursday and Friday, 18th and 19th March. If you're in Arusha one of those evenings, they can promise you a good evening's entertainment. We will be taking a bus to Arusha on 19th March so that our boarders can enjoy the performance that evening.
Secondary Sports Day
We will be holding our postponed secondary sports day on Monday, 22nd March. Students will have regular classes until morning break, after which there will be inter-house sports competitions until 3pm. Volleyball, tennis and football are included in the sports to be played.
D2 Art Exam and Exhibition
Even before the written exams next quarter, the D2 Art students will be presenting their exhibition to an examiner this quarter on Monday, 22nd March. After the examination is completed, we will open the exhibition for parents and other members of the community.
M4 Field Study
The M4 students from both campuses will be undertaking their field study trip on Tuesday-Thursday, 23rd-25th March. Parents of M4 students will be receiving a more detailed letter about the trip shortly.
Paying cash in school
We would like to ask parents to avoid paying cash to anybody in school unless paying in the accounts office or at the main reception. If your child is eating lunch in the dining hall, please buy tickets at the reception and do not give cash to other members of the school staff. All cash received in school can be receipted by the accounts office and this is the best way to avoid mistakes and prevent cash from going missing.
End of Quarter Arrangements
Classes this quarter will finish on Friday, 26th March. Secondary students will finish classes by 10:15am. Parents of secondary students are invited to meet with their child's teachers in Karibu Hall on this day between 10:35am and 12 noon. Primary students will finish classes at the usual time of 12:35.
We would once again like to appeal to families not to withdraw their children early at the end of the quarter as we do want classes to continue as normal until the Friday morning. Boarders should not be leaving school before 10:30am on Friday unless this is essential. If your child is in boarding and you wish him/her to travel by air, please purchase an e-ticket for a flight leaving on Friday afternoon or later and send this to Sunita Somaiya on as soon as possible. When planning return journeys, please note that boarders should return on Monday, 12th April and classes will restart on Tuesday, 13th April.
All secondary students will receive an interim report on their child's progress this quarter; D2 students will receive a full detailed report. These reports will be issued on Wednesday, 24th March.
