Congratulations to our diploma students who reached Uhuru Peak last week and thanks to the staff who accompanied them. We are now into the last week of this quarter but there is still much to do before the holiday break ahead.

D2 Art Exam and Exhibition
The D2 Art students will be presenting their exhibition to an examiner this week and will then open the exhibition to the public on Wednesday, 24th March at 6:30pm. Parents are welcome to view the art exhibition on Wednesday evening, but students are asked to wait until Thursday unless accomanying their parents on Wednesday. The exhibition will be open all day on Thursday, 25th March. See a preview at www/ismoshi.org/dipart.htm.
M4 Field Study
The M4 students from both campuses will be undertaking their field study trip on Tuesday-Thursday, 23rd-25th March. They are travelling to West Kilimanjaro where they will be focusing on the guiding question: "Do our actions affect the weather, or does the weather affect our actions?". Parents of students in M4 should have already received a more detailed letter about the trip.
SAT and TOEFL Tests
Many D1 students will need to register for either SAT or TOEFL tests or both to be taken in May. Students who will need help from the school with payment must register before tomorrow, 21st May. If your child needs help to register and has not yet done so, please contact Keiron White as soon as possible on .
Primary Assemblies
Students shared their acting skills to celebrate World Theatre Day for Children during our final primary assembly for this quarter held last Friday. EC shared their letter poem of the week called Popcorn and we got to see some great acting in their play on the Billy Goats Gruff. P1/2 students enacted the story of Where The Wild Things Are while P3/4 and P5/6 entertained us with Theatre Sports.
This week we will be having a whole school assembly to end this quarter . This is usually held on the green between the staffroom and room 19 at 9:50 on Friday.
News from Primary
Students have been enthusiastic about the Afternoon Clubs this quarter. I would like to thank all the teachers, teaching assistants, parents and friends who have assisted in the running of the afternoon clubs. Many thanks, in particular, to Mrs. Bhamra and Anne-Marijke for organising the craft and recorder clubs. If parents/friends are able to offer an afternoon activity next quarter, please inform Ms. Rosi or the class teachers of your interest by Friday 26th March.
We would like to farewell Max Griffiths in EC who will be returning to the US with his family at the end of this quarter.
End of Quarter Arrangements
Classes this quarter will finish on Friday, 26th March. Secondary students will finish classes by 10:15am. Parents of secondary students are invited to meet with their child's teachers in Karibu Hall on this day between 10:35am and 12 noon. Primary students will finish classes at the usual time of 12:35.
We would once again like to appeal to families not to withdraw their children early at the end of the quarter as we do want classes to continue as normal until the Friday morning. Boarders should not be leaving school before 10:30am on Friday unless this is essential. If your child is in boarding and you wish him/her to travel by air, please purchase an e-ticket for a flight leaving on Friday afternoon or later and send this to Sunita Somaiya on as soon as possible. When planning return journeys, please note that boarders should return on Monday, 12th April and classes will restart on Tuesday, 13th April.
All secondary students will receive an interim report on their child's progress this quarter; D2 students will receive a full detailed report. These reports will be issued on Wednesday, 24th March.
Kilimanjaro Marathon
Congratulatins to all those who ran in Team ISM in the Kilimanjaro Marathon a couple of weeks ago and many thanks to all the sponsors who supported them. After deducting costs, we raised a total of TSh 1,435,500/- which has been donated to the ISM Scholarship Fund.
Scholarship Student News
Our applications for scholarship places in 2010/11 closed at the end of February and, from all applicants, nine were selected and attended interviews yesterday. We were extremely impressed with the quality of candidates this year and had a difficult time in determining who should be offered the scholarships, but decisions had to be made and we will be offering places to the two successful candidates later this weekend.
School Shop
As announced in this newsletter a few weeks ago, we have been planning to privatise the school duka from the start of next quarter. We will be working with Woodlands Grocery, a local grocery shop here in Shanty Town, to ensure that the duka operates well from 12th April when the boarders return.
International Festival
Thanks to all who attended and supported the International Festival in Arusha last weekend. Photos of the event can be seen on www.ismoshi.org/parents.htm - the parents pages on the school website.
