    Dear Parents,

    The fourth quarter is now well under way and, as our D2 students prepare for their final exams, others are engaged in a great variety of activities. Congratulations to the M5 students who presented their personal projects last week and the best of luck to the group climbing Kilimanjaro to Mandara Hut today.

    Swimming Workshop
    Chris Stapley, a professional swimming coach, will be holding a workshop for swimming coaches on Sunday, 18th April from 8:30am to 12 noon in the school swimming pool. This workshop will be open to parents and to students in M4 or above. All are welcome.
    MYP Personal Projects
    Parents of M4 students who are just beginning their personal projects as well as any other interested parents, are invited to a meeting on Tuesday, 20th April at 6:30pm to learn more about the personal project that their son/daughter will be engaged in.

    Also on Wednesday, 21st April our M5 students will travel to ISM Arusha Campus to listen to the Arusha M5 Personal Project presentations.
    Sports Banquet
    Our annual Sports Banquet for students which recognises all those who have contributed to sport in the school will be held on Friday, 23rd April. Day students can purchase a ticket for the event (TSh 4000/-) at Reception in the main office.
    Presentation in Dar es Salaam
    The Director, Bob Woods, and myself, Keiron White, will be making a presentation in Dar es Salaam on ISM on Friday, 23rd April at 5pm at the Kempinsky Hotel. The aim of the presentation is to meet families who may be considering enrolling their children in ISM next school year. If you are in Dar and could spare an hour or so on Friday, please do join us; also if you know of any families who may be interested to come to the meeting, please let them know. The meeting will also be advertised in the press and at www.ismoshi.org/darpresent.pdf.

    I will be available in Dar on Saturday morning to meet with any current families or prospective ISM families who would like an individual discussion. Please contact me on to arrange a suitable time to meet.
    Union Day
    Please be advised that Monday, 26th April is a public holiday to celebrate Union Day. There will be no classes in school on that day.
    D2 Classes and Exams
    D2 students will finish classes on Friday, 23rd April. Over the following weeks their teachers will be available to assist through individual support, but there will be no formal D2 classes. The written Diploma examinations start on Tuesday, 4th May. During the interim study week, day students may either work at home or in the library / diploma study room in school. Boarders may also work in their bedrooms, or may return home during any period when they do not have exams; if boarders plan to return home, please let the boarding parent know this in advance.

    Primary Afternoon Clubs
    Parents of children in Primary will find attached to this newsletter a list of the students for each primary club this quarter. Only students who returned their club sheets are listed. Students who have not returned their sheets have been asked to see Ms.Rosi if they need another sheet. Primary clubs begin on Monday, 19th April.
    P6 PYP Exhibition
    Our P6 students have begun exploring and developing the central ideas for their Exhibition which will take place on Tuesday/Wednesday, 25th/26th May and is under the theme of How we express ourselves. We will be holding a meeting for parents of P6 students to learn more about this exhibition in school at 6:30pm on Tuesday, 27th April.
    New Students
    We would like to welcome to the Moshi Campus some new students: Salman joined us in P6 near the end of last quarter, and Janeth (P3), Nandi (P5) and Lynn (M1) have joined us this quarter.
    Primary Swimming Gala & Football Tournament
    We are lookinmg forward to welcoming students from a number of other schools for this sports weekend on the Moshi Campus on 30th April and 1st May. Ms. Cindy and our swim team's preparations are well underway for the events.
    Primary Assembly
    Our next primary assembly will be held on Friday 30th April. We will be celebrating World Dance Day.
    Outdoor Pursuits
    Sign-ups took place in school last quarter for the Outdoor Pursuits trips as follows:
    • 17-18 April: Mandara Hut, Kilimanjaro - this Level One trip is ideal for younger secondary students and those entirely new to our OP programme
    • 24-26 April: Little Meru - a Level Two trip to the smaller peak on Mout Meru.
    • 29 April - 2 May: Mawenzi Hut, Kilimanjaro - a level Three trip to the base of Mawenzi - the lower pesak on Kilimanjaro.
    • 8-11 May: Socialist Peak - a demanding level Four trip to the summit of Mount Meru.
    M1/M2 Maths Challenge
    Our M1 and M2 students will be competing with their Arusha counterparts in Moshi on Wednesday, 28th April in our annual Maths Challenge.
    M4 Work Experience
    During the week of 3rd - 7th May, our M4 students will be working in a local company or industry for the week so as to acquire some work experience. The students are guided to arrange the work placement themselves at a place of work in the Moshi/Arusha area. We will then ensure that the work placement is suitable, will arrange for a teacher to visit them at work during the week and meet with both our M4 student and their work placement supervisor, and will generally monitor their placement through the week
    M3 Field Study Trip
    The M3 students will be undertaking a field study trip on 4th-6th May with the Arusha Campus M3 students at UAACC near Arusha.
    Enrolment for 2010/11
    All students currently enrolled in the school are assumed to be continuing in 2010/11 unless we are advised otherwise. If you expect that your child will be leaving ISM at the end of this school year in June, could you please let me know in writing to as soon as possible. If you are uncertain, please also contact me to explain the situation, so that we can make any necessary arrangements.

    This also applies to M5 students on both Moshi and Arusha campuses who we look forward to welcoming in D1 next year unless we are advised otherwise.

    Wheel Covers
    If you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle and would like to put an ISM wheel cover on the back of your car, please collect an ISM wheel cover free of charge from reception in school. We are happy to provide one cover per family.
