Dear Parents,US Embassy VisitRepresentatives from the US Embassy will offer consular services on the Arusha Campus on the last day of term, Wednesday 19th March, from 11.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. in the drama room.Pool Changing RoomsThe pool changing rooms will be closed during the Easter break as we will be doing renovations to improve the facilities. Many thanks to Sandra Kusserow for her help and expertise in this project.Pool ChlorinatorThe school has purchased a salt water chlorination system for the pool which we expect to be installed soon after Easter. Parents may also have noticed the fence around the pool has been changed near the entrance to improve security for the change rooms.GardensSpecial thanks to the parent and student volunteers who have been working on landscaping and gardening. This has made a huge difference to the way the campus looks and this on going project will continue to improve our campus. In addition to the gardening ECA, we will soon be announcing the addition of a tree seedling project.Front of SchoolMany thanks to Burka Coffee Estates for their work on improving the very front of school which has been levelled and tidied up. The trees and hedge have been improved and they have donated and planted 70 trees to improve the front border of the school. This is part of the ongoing landscaping initiative of parents on our campus.M1 Field StudyM1 students from both campuses will be undertaking their field study next week from Monday 10th to Thursday, 13th March.Class CoordinatorsThe Parent Association is keen to established Class Coordinators amongst the parents in each of the primary and secondary classes to help organise events and assist in communicating with different parents. The main function will be to represent the interests of parents of students in that class to the Parent Association and to enhance communication between parents, the PA and the school. If you are interested in taking on this role, please contact the Parent Association on .Car Park UseIf you are coming on to campus at the weekends especially I would ask you to park in the car park and not drive on to the field or near the pool. Adrian Moody Head of Campus Secondary NewsM4 trip to Babati/KoloWelcome back to the M4 students! They’ve had a busy week with plenty of hiking, artwork, camping, team building and plenty of drama! They endured bumpy roads, some wet nights, and a full timetable of 'Interpretation.' Karibuni tena!M1 trip to Lake Manyara and Lake EyasiThe M1 students will leave Monday, 10 March, for a trip to Lake Manyara and Lake Eyasi with Ms Wood and teachers from Moshi. They will be looking at the theme of 'change' and how the communities and environments in the Rift Valley lakes region interact and influence change. Safari njema!Culminating ActivitiesOn Monday, 17 March, and Tuesday, 18 March, students in the secondary school will have activities designed to bring their work for the term to a close. These culminating activities are a fun way to wrap-up the themes and content of their studies for the term.
Hosts needed!When the M2 students come to Arusha on Monday, 17 March, they will stay overnight. We would like to have them stay as guests with school families that night. A letter has gone home to parents of M2 students asking for hosts; if any other parents are willing to host one or more M2 students that night, please let me or Mr. Moody know. Instead, we have set aside two times for parents to meet with secondary teachers to discuss student progress:
John Iglar Head of Secondary Primary NewsStudent Led CelebrationsOn Tuesday 11th next week you will receive your child’s portfolio, I know the students are excited about sharing their learning with you and also having you visit the learning centers around the school on Thursday 13th. Please bring your child’s portfolio with you when you come to the celebration.What is a student led celebration and how does it work? The student led celebration day provides your child with an opportunity to share their knowledge and understanding in different areas of the curriculum. Your child is responsible for leading the celebration and the teacher is on hand as a facilitator. If you have specific questions or concerns you wish to discuss with the class teacher please make a separate time to do this. I recommend that if you have more than one student led celebration scheduled, you bring a snack or activity to occupy siblings so that each child is able to enjoy individual time with you. I will have a few activities set up to help keep siblings occupied as well. Please note that there are no instructional lessons happening on this day. P1/2 Culminating EventCongratulations to all the P1/2 students, teachers and parents for a successful afternoon devoted to the reinforcement of living. Through class work, exercise in the pool, hygiene practices and healthy eating under the banda, students were able to share their understanding of what is means to be ‘healthy’.Share Time AssemblyI would like to thank P1/2 Diana for hosting a most enjoyable share time assembly this week. The singing by the P1/2 and P3/4 choirs was amazing as was the gymnastic skills of our visiting acrobats. Our next share time assembly will be in the new term and will feature acts from our P5/6 ‘bands’. Stay tuned!Run Jump Throw - Athletics CarnivalAs a culminating event related to our PE Sport lessons in the field of athletics, the primary school will be joining the secondary school for a morning of skill application on Wednesday 19th March on the large field. Students are asked to wear their house colours. Next week students will be signing up for a number of different events to represent their house. Events include: 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m Sprints, Long Jump, Softball put / Shot put, Discus, Javelin, Egg & Spoon, Sack Race, Tug-o-War, Shuttle relays and Mixed relays. Bring along a morning tea picnic and something to sit on and enjoy the morning. Don’t forget to pack your runners in case you feel and urge to join in!Professional DevelopmentThis week we wished Linda Willms a safe journey as she travelled to Dubai to attend a MYP Art workshop. Next week we wish Ishbel Brydon a safe journey as she travels to Portugal to attend a PYP workshop. These professional development opportunities are invaluable and I know our teachers will come back with an even deeper understanding of how we can best provide and improve teaching and learning experiences for our students.Betty Brown Head of Primary Sports NewsAthletics DayOn the last day of term - Wednesday March 19th - there will be a school wide athletics morning from 8:30 a.m. -12:00 p.m. with whole-school morning of track and field activities. Students will be participating to earn points for their house team. Parents are most welcome to come and be part of the fun.SportsGood luck to all footballers travelling to the Moshi Soccer 7s on Saturday. Meeting point for the bus is 7 a.m. Saturday at Bella Luna.
