Adrian Moody Head of Campus Secondary News
Welcome back! It's been a great short week back to school after the break. The M5 students had a busy day on Wednesday, taking the PSAT exam, but they survived well! We met with many parents Thursday afternoon regarding interim reports. We hope all families had an opportunity to do some relaxing things during the October break and holidays.M2 class to Pangani
The M2 class are heading down to Pangani on Monday. Steve Brown and Leigh MacRae will take them to join the M2s from Moshi for a week of sun, sand, and study! Safari njema!Homework
There is a new homework timetable and expectations going home with students, and we will have an assembly on Monday morning to go over the new procedures. Secondary teachers met last quarter to try to plan our homework expectations better for our students, avoiding some of the problems we'd had with students being overworked and overstressed. Parents, please monitor your child's homework time and help us to make sure they are challenged and given worthwhile practice work at home without overloading them. Do let us know if you notice problems with work your child is bringing home.UN Day
Next Friday, 24 October, is United Nations Day. The secondary Student Council is inviting all members of our community to show the multitude of nations at ISM by dressing in national clothing. Flags are optional, but welcome!Regards John Iglar Head of Secondary Primary News
Dear Parents,Welcome Back to Quarter 2 after what has been a wonderful, much enjoyed break. We would like to welcome our new and returning students and their families: Clemens Jacobson - P1/2, Solomon Anderson - P1/2, Chloe Anderson - P3/4K. We would especially like to welcome back Ms. Ishbel Brydon who will be teaching P3/4K while Kara is on maternity leave. Kara is due to have her baby next week! All is well! Student Learning
Within the PYP we believe student learning is best done when it is authentic & relevant to the "real" world: and trans disciplinary where the learning is not confined within the boundaries of traditional subject areas but supported and
enriched by them. It is a programme that each student will engage with in ways that are developmentally appropriate and inclusive. To commence the term grade level classes will be investigating into the following big ideas. P1/2 will be looking at how different structures are built with particular materials to suit specific purposes. Through the use of different literature for example: The Three Billy Goats Gruff the children will be designing structures to solve problems. This unit fosters creativity, risk taking and critical thinking. P3/4 will be investigating how the behaviors and uses of materials are determined by their properties. Through being a curious inquirer, students will look at physical and chemical changes, the nature of solids, liquids and gasses as well as the identification of different materials. Their summative assessment task will be a Science Fair in week of this quarter which you are all invited to attend. P5/6 students will use their teacher adapted song "This land is your land" in order to use their research skills to find out about how formations and changes in landforms and landscapes tell us about phenomenon which occur under the earth's surface. We are looking forward to the students adding knowledgeable informative verses to their song and then sharing it at a share time assembly later in the quarter. P5/6 Landforms & Landscapes Song
This land is my land From the Great Rift Valley To Zanzibar Island From Kilimanjaro To the Ngorongoro Crater This land is made for you and me Swimming
For PE this term students will be having double swimming lessons. Students need to bring their swimmers for both their swimming lesson and their PE skills lesson. Students will be developing their technique and speed while moving through the water using Frontcrawl, breastroke and backstroke in order to prepare for our Inter-house Swimming Gala which will be held on Friday 19th December.Share Time Assembly
