Secondary News
Dear Parents,
Sports Weekend
Asante sana to Mr. Schofield for organizing a terrific weekend in Moshi! Good luck and play hard to the athletes. Have fun!
Maths Challenge: Monday, 15 December
The M3 and M4 students from Moshi will travel to Arusha on Monday, 15 December to join our students for a variety of challenging and enjoyable Mathematics activities.
M3 Culminating Activity: 16-17 December
The M3 students will have a special two nights and two days culminating activity from 15-17 December. On Monday night, they will join the M3 students from Moshi in a special overnight bridge between the Maths Challenge and the Culminating Activity. They'll camp out at school and enjoy some camaraderie between them and the Moshi students. Then Tuesday and Wednesday will be the Culminating Activity with an overnight camping at a secret off-campus location.
M5 Personal Project Work Days: 15-16 December
In order to help our students prepare their best possible projects, we will set aside two days for the M5 students to finalize their Personal Projects. Monday and Tuesday, 15-16 December, will be work days for the M5 students. They may work off campus or on campus, as is appropriate and works best for each student and his/her project. They will return to school on Wednesday, 17 December, to present their projects to the M4 students and begin planning their Personal Statements.
M4 Personal Project Orientation: 16-17 December
The M4 students will receive an introduction and orientation to the Personal Project in school on Tuesday and Wednesday, 16-17 December. Mr. Brown and other teachers will give them information about what the Personal Project is, how to choose a project, and how to be successful in the project. The students will brainstorm some ideas and will compare their ideas with the M5 students, get advice from them, and see their projects. This will help them prepare for a long, challenging but very rewarding activity.
Reports and Parent Conferences
Full reports will go home with students on Thursday, 18 December. These are comprehensive reports with a great deal of information about the students'performance over the entire semester, from August to now. We will not be scheduling formal parent conferences, either now or when we get back in January. Any parents who wish to discuss the grades and/or comments may - as always! - contact the office and schedule a conference with myself or any teachers.
Assembly on Thursday
Thursday afternoon (1:00), we will have an assembly for sharing some work by M1 and M3 students. The M1's are presenting a play from English class, "The Stupid Judge." The M3's will have an exhibition of Art and DT projects (masks and clocks) and will perform some of their Music pieces. We'll also say farewell to departing students.
Wrapping Up
Friday, 19 December, is a half day and will be devoted to an inter-house swim gala. (Swimsuits other than Yellow, Green or Blue are acceptable but students should wear their house colours - Go, Meru, Mawenzi & Kibo!)
Assessment Week: 19-23 January
All students have received revision guides for the Assessment Week in January. M5 students will have a full week of formal examinations, with revision time set aside as well. M4 students will have formal written assessments, with regular classes as well. M1-M3 students will have some assessments that week. We have a progressive system of formal written assessments and examinations from M1-M5, designed to not only assess the students'knowledge and skills, but also to prepare them for the rigours of the Diploma programme. Parents, please help your students by asking them about their assessments, making sure they have their revision guides from their classes, and helping them set aside time and space to revise for the assessments. We've made sure students have their revision materials early so they can begin now and not have to devote all their time in the upcoming holidays to revision.
Regards
John Iglar Head of Secondary
Outdoor Pursuits
Certificates for semester 1 will be presented at assembly on Thursday. Another round of trips will happen next semester.

A big thank you to all our instructors for another great round of creative, sporting and community activities. Session 3 starts on Monday January 26.
