International School Moshi
Arusha Campus News - 20th March 2009
Dear Parents,

New Director
We are very pleased to announce that Mr Robert Woods has accepted the position of Director of ISM. He will officially start work on 1st August, although we hope that he will have an opportuntiy to visit ISM next term. Mr Woods had been interviewed along with other candidates by parents, students, teachers and the Board and the offer of the position to him was strongly supported by all groups. Robert Woods is currently the Headmaster of the International School of Helsinki (ISH) where he has been working and living since 2003. ISH is a school with 320 students aged between 4 and 18 who are following the International Baccalaureate curricula of the PYP, MYP and Diploma. Prior to settling in Helsinki, Mr Woods was the Head of the Schutz American School in Alexandria, Egypt for 4 years, and he previously spent 9 years at the Escola Americana do Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Robert Woods will be joining ISM with his wife Amelia. We wish them both all the very best for their transition to Moshi/Arusha.
New Arusha Staff
I would like to welcome the new staff who will begin in August on the Arusha Campus:-
  • French - Mirjam Berghuis
  • Music/Drama - Erik Meinhertz
  • Humanities - Andrew VanderMeulen
  • P3/4 - Shawna Spady
  • Technology - Carl Love
  • Head of Secondary/Mathematics - Eanna O'Boyle
Shortly you will be able to see their photos and read their biographies on the school website. These teachers will be filling the shoes of Lloyd and Michele Curley, Andrena Gorman, Leigh MacRae, and John and Helen Iglar who will be leaving us in June. That's still three months away so there is plenty of time to wish them well!
ISM International Day
Congratulations to the Parent Association for organizing a successful International Day last weekend in Moshi. It was great to see so many of the school community there from Arusha as well as Moshi. Thanks to all the students who performed, the teachers who helped with the organization, and the parents for the wide variety of international foods.
ABRSM Practical Exams
We have been advised that these are likely to take place on both campuses in the week beginning 16th May 2009. Further details are yet to be confirmed and we will advise parents once these are known. Students have now all completed their registrations for these exams.
Outdoor Pursuits: Mandara Hut
The first OP trip of this season is to Mandara this weekend. This is the first hut on Kilimanjaro - the Mandara hut is a relatively simple Level One trip designed to introduce students to the OP programme.
