Dear Parents,
New Director
A correction to last week's newsletter. Bob Woods will be arriving in Tanzania in late July (not August!).
ABRSM Theory Exams
The next set of music theory examinations will be held in Arusha on 30th September. Parents of students who wish to register must email me directly at before the end of this term on 17th June. Please note that I can only take registrations for upcoming examinations and parents need to confirm registration for later examinations when they are announced.
Student Teacher
We will have a female student teacher working in primary from August 3rd until October 9th. We are looking for accommodation for her during this time. If you can assist then please let me know.
Internship
There is a student who plans to study International Relationships and Politics at university who would like to take a gap year in Arusha. He is very keen to gain an internship with the UN in Arusha. This student completed his IB Diploma in Germany and his extended essay was on the Rwandan Genocide. If anyone can help please contact me.
PYP Exhibition
This week our P5/6 class travelled to the Moshi Campus PYP Exhibition. This is the culminating project for our P6 students - a trans-disciplinary enquiry conducted in the spirit of personal and shared responsibility. It is an opportunity for the P6 students to synthesise the essential elements of the PYP and share them with the school community. The Arusha PYP Exhibition will be in the last week of May.
Leaving Students
The deadline for advising us if your child will not be continuing in ISM next term has now passed. If your situation has unexpectedly changed and your child will be leaving, please let me know as soon as possible on . The school can charge half a term's fees in lieu if sufficient notice of departure is not given. Leaving students are required to return all books and other borrowed equipment.
Sports Weekend in Dar es Salaam
Our primary sports team has left for Dar this weekend (15th-18th May) to compete against a number of schools. We wish them a safe, enjoyable and successful trip.

Dear Parents,
Keeping busy to the end
Although students and teachers are understandably looking towards assessment week (25-29 May) and the challenge of a week of end-of-year assessments, that is not the end of the year! More learning and more activities will be going on afterwards! The following week, the M4 class will travel to West Kilimanjaro (2-5 June) to study the geography and economics of the area. The M2 class will journey to Moshi for their "In Control" culminating activity, being in control of a Kindy Fun Day. The week after that, the M1 class will show off their physical and design patterns in a Fashion Show culminating activity, while the M5's will head off to the Moshi area for an end-of-year trip. Throw in an M5 Art exhibition, a Shakespeare performance, and all the regular classroom adventures, and the students will be actively learning right through June.

Primary News

Dear Parents,
P5/6 PYP Exhibition Trip to Moshi
On Wednesday our P5/6 students traveled to Moshi to view the Exhibitions put on by their buddies. They learned how money affects they way in which people live. Our P6 students are putting the final touches to their own power point presentations, display boards and journal write ups. Parents are invited to view these exhibitions on Friday 29th May.
P5/6 Swimming / football Tournament in Dar es Salaam
Our students and teachers left this morning at 5.00am. We have heard that they had a safe flight and are now enjoying the heat of Dar es Salaam. We wish them a an enjoyable tournament. Meanwhile the students that did not travel to Dar es Salam wish to thank Arlene Simonson for hosting us for a most enjoyable morning of horse riding!. The bike ride there and back was fun to!
Parent Afternoon Tea
Parents are invited to join me on Friday 22 May at 12.50pm for an information afternoon tea to gain some insight into our Language B programme and how it works and some minor changes we will be implementing for the next school year. If you are unable to make this meeting an information sheet will be sent home in next week's primary news.
EC Trip to Umoja
We would like to thank the Umoja staff for a memorable morning of story telling.

Sports News

Co-Curricular Activities
Keep in mind that the canteen will be closed during CCA times 2:30-3:25 and reopen at 3:30. Please plan accordingly in terms of water and snacks. Activities started on Monday April 27th and continue until Wednesday June 3, a total of 6 weeks.
Outdoor Pursuits
Well done to the level 4 group. Everyone made it to the summit of Meru!! Congratulations to group leader Lloyd Curley and the entire team for another successful excursion. Lots more trips coming up next year!!
Sports
Good luck to both our primary and secondary swimmers and footballers this weekend. They will be competing in Dar Es Salaam and Braeburn Kisongo respectively.

***The Braeburn swim gala start time has changed to 11:30am***

U8 football today at Braeburn Kisongo. The team will leave after lunch in school transport. Matches are scheduled to start at 2pm and finish before 4:30pm. Players can either be collected directly from Braeburn or from ISM AC where they will return after the matches.

Congratulations to the senior volleyball team which placed 2nd in the Peace House volleyball series.

Cross Country Running is coming up!! It's the perfect weather to get out for a run and get ready for the annual competition at Braeburn. Age groups are: U10, U13, U15 and U17. The more people we enter the better our chance of winning.
