Direct from the Director
You are invited!!The Parent Association will be hosting the Annual General Meeting next week. As has been advertised, we will be holding two sessions of the AGM, one at each campus. The first session will be held Tuesday, November 24th at 15:30 on the Moshi Campus. The second session will be held on Wednesday, November 25th at 13:30 on the Arusha Campus. The AGM is an important opportunity for parents at ISM. Elections will be held at this meeting to fill the open seats on the PA committee. The members of this committee meet regularly with the school administration to plan events that support the students, learning and the overall advancement of ISM. Being a member of this committee is one way to contribute to the larger school community. The location of the meeting on the Arusha Campus will be the Kiswahili room. We invite you to participate in this important meeting and be a part of rebuilding the spirit of ISM. Sincerely, Robert Woods Director Security Stickers

Eid ul Adha is an Islamic Holliday which is observed at the end of the Annual Pilgrimage of the Hajj at Mecca. It is on the 10th Day of the Month of the "Dhul Hajj" of the Islamic lunar Calendar. Since the beginning of the month depends on the sighting of the moon, it is uncertain as to when the Idd day will fall on. It is expected that it will be on either 27th or 28th of November. In order for ISM community to plan their days accordingly, the school will recognize Friday, 27th November as the Idd holiday, and no classes will be held on that day. This day has been planned in the school calendar as such. Dates to remember
Adrian Moody Head of Campus Secondary NewsHomework
The student council has put into action a homework calendar which they have posted on a large notice board outside the classrooms. By colour coding each subject, students can get an immediate visual overview of the timelines for all of their major assignments. The aim of course is to help students organize their time and mind so that they not only present assignments on time but that they put in continuous and high quality effort. Talk to your children more about it and they will fill you in with more details!Technology with Carl Love
Hello all - FYI - we had a good get-together with parents here last Tuesday morning - a workshop discussing 'Growing Up Online'. There was a good sized group with some lively discussion surrounding many issues related to technology. I personally really enjoyed it! In case of your interest, here is a link/resource I provided the participants. Please - check it out. I am no expert, but I think the topic is a crucial one in today's society and in our roles as parents and educators.

Regards Éanna O'Boyle Head of Secondary Primary NewsThank you
I would like to thank all our ISM students, parents and teachers who helped out with our "ISM Kids' Corner" at last weekend's Christmas Craft Fair. Feedback from the community was that the kids' corner was very much appreciated, well supervised, offered a range of passive activities and was very much enjoyed by the children.
Scholastic Book Orders
We are awaiting our recently placed student/parent orders from Scholastic. These book orders should be here within the next 2 weeks - before the holiday break! We know this because this week we received 300 books (totaling US$900) that we ordered using our school book club points. These points are based on the number of orders we place from our school community. Therefore we would like to thank all our parents and students who order through Scholastic as well as Christine de Dobbelaere and Rosemary Davidson for coordinating this very worthwhile and exciting service for our school. At ISM we love reading to learn!Parent Teacher Child Conferences
On Tuesday of next week your child will be bringing home their portfolio. Inside the front cover you will have a time for your conference on Thursday 26 November. On this day there will be no formal classes and students will attend the 30 minute meeting together with you and their teacher. This is a wonderful opportunity for the students to reflect on their goals, set new ones and share their understanding of what they have been working on this semester. We look forward to seeing you on this day.Share Time Assembly
Our next share time assembly will be on Friday 4th December and will be hosted by our P3/4 students. - Mark your calendar!PYP Evaluation
Next Thursday at our PTCs I will have a 'PYP Evaluation Self Study' display set up outlining the process and feedback we have gleaned from our self study process. The process enabled each of the four self study teams to address each of the standards and practices specifically and in depth. This worthwhile process has enabled us as a primary school to reflect on current practices and set goals for future and ongoing improvements. In a further attempt to include feedback from as many parents and students as possible we have developed a brief general questionnaire for students and parents to complete. It should take about 5 minutes of your time. Whilst this questionnaire is optional, we hope it gives you an opportunity to reflect on your own understandings of the programme. This feedback will be used to validate or add to our overall summary. (a copy is attached to this newsletter and can be sent back to me: )"Please note the Programme evaluation does not seek to appraise or assess individual teachers or students. Instead it is an opportunity for all stake holders (administrators, teachers, parents and students) to pause and reflect honestly on both the strengths and areas for improvement of the school's programme. This internal self-study of the delivery of the PYP can turn out to be a source of new dynamism and momentum within the school. It has also proved to be a renewed chance for improved communication within the school." (IBO PYP Guide to Programme Evaluation) From Moshi Campus: Uniforms
Please note skorts, shorts and black sports shorts are now available for purchase at the Moshi Campus main office. If you would like to purchase the following please inform Loise and we will get stock sent to Arusha.NB: All sizes for polo shirts are also available at the main office on both campuses.
