Head of Secondary Selection
As mentioned in a previous newsletter Mr. Éanna O'Boyle, the current Head of Secondary on Arusha Campus will be taking up the responsibilities of Head of Campus in the 2010-11 school year. Therefore we needed to find a replacement for his position. As a part of our search for a replacement, we interviewed interested staff already working at ISM. A process was put into place which included a review of qualifications as well as personal interviews. We are pleased to announce that Mr. Carl Love, currently the Technology teacher on Arusha Campus will be taking up the responsibilities of Head of Secondary in the 2010-11 school year. CCAs and OPs
The CCAs for this quarter are coming to a finish and we will be organizing quarter 3 activities. To help increase the number and variety of CCAs, we ask you parents if you would be willing to lead an activity with students either on a Monday or Wednesday afternoon from 1430-1530. This could be an activity in which you consider yourself an expert or it could be one in which you are willing to learn with the students. If you are interested, send a message to outlining:Sports - Secondary students are gearing up for the Moshi Sports weekend Friday December 11 - Sunday 13. A reminder about tomorrow.Eid ul Adha is an Islamic Holiday which is observed at the end of the Annual Pilgrimage of the Hajj at Mecca. It is on the 10th Day of the Month of the "Dhul Hajj" of the Islamic lunar Calendar. In order for ISM community to plan their days accordingly, the school will recognize Friday, 27th November as the Idd holiday, and no classes will be held on that day. Therefore tomorrow is a holiday for all ISM. Term 2 holidays

Adrian Moody Head of Campus Secondary NewsBullying
Bullying is a phenomenon common to many schools but this does not make it tolerable. We are aware of several instances of bullying here in Secondary and take on a variety of forms such as cyber-bullying (as Mr. Love explored with parents last week during his workshop), teasing, sending rude text messages, physical harassment and hiding belongings. Be assured that we are doing our utmost to both stop this and teaching students about it.Visual Arts with Linda WIllms: Playing with Sand
"How can I express opinion visually using mixed media?" This week M4 began mixed media experiments with glue, ash and sand in the style of Jason Corder whose paintings are currently on exhibition at Warm Heart Art Tanzania - Masai Café. Students are also researching the work of other mixed media artists such as Jasper John and Robert Rauschenburg. Their final piece will express a personal opinion and reference the work of artists they have studied.
Technology Department - Secondary
Dear Parents of M2 - M5,For the last week or so, the classes have been viewing a video with some strong content in terms of how technology can affect teens and their Internet use in general. There are some real life cases of cheating/plaigarism, cyber-bullying leading to suicide, anorexia, etc. The content can be very mature at times. The classes that have seen the video have been very mature with their reflections and responses. It might just have been the most important technology lesson I can give them this year. Please - ask your child about the video and see if a good discussion can ensure with regard to balance in their lives (with technology use), caring for one another (even when online), the ethical use of technology and the Internet - and how to move forward as they look to the rest of their lives with a technology-rich world. I think it would be a very important discussion. Again, as always, please do contact me if you have any questions or comments, Carl Love ( ) Regards, Éanna O'Boyle Head of Secondary Primary NewsParent Teacher Child Conferences (PTCs)

Your feedback on the summary report and the action plan was much appreciated. This documentation will be sent away on Monday 30th Nov.
