P6 Exhibition
This week our P6 students met to plan our their P6 Culminating Assessment Task "The P6 Exhibition" The Exhibition is a very exciting time for our students as they put into practice their knowledge and understanding about the essential elements of the Primary Years Programme.
"To be truly educated, a student must also make connections across the disciplines, discover ways to integrate the separate subjects, and ultimately relate what they learn to life" (Boyer 1995).
This year the theme for the Exhibition falls under the Tran disciplinary Theme of "How we express ourselves" Students will be inquiring into the ways in which we discover and express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, beliefs and values: the ways in which we reflect on, extend and enjoy our creativity; our appreciation of the aesthetic.
Over the holiday break these students will begin their thinking and planning related to how they are going to actively involve themselves in their own learning, extending their prior knowledge, increasing their competencies and understandings and sharing their own actions.
Curriculum corner - WRITING
Children will use the vocabulary they know when they are writing. It is important to continually provide your child with opportunities to learn new words and encourage them to use them in their writing. Specifically over the holiday break assist your child to develop a large vocabulary by:
Talking about and helping your child to recognize words that are meaningful to them, eg: name of their street, town, school, pet, friends
Pointing out key words in the text and explaining words your child may not know.
Reading aloud a variety of good literature
Reciting poems together
Saying rhymes together
Singing songs together
Encouraging your child to use the language of characters from stories read
Talking about familiar things and ensuring your child has a wide range of things to talk about
Talking about topics of mutual 9nterest with the expectation that your child will listen and respond
Encouraging your child to retell the days events at the dinner table or on the way home in the care.
Valuing what your child says and providing a model of how to communicate, eg: initiating and monitoring conversations.
Encourage your children to use this vocabulary in their holiday reflective writing journals. This is an excellent way of maintaining writing process skills as well as providing them with quiet time to reflect on their days.
