Dear Parents, Maulid Holiday
Maulid (also known as Milad-un-Nabi) is an Islamic Holiday which celebrates the birthday of Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him). This day is celebrated on the 12th day of Rabi-ul- Awwal (3rd Month in Islamic Calendar). This year, it is expected to fall on either 25th or 26th of February 2010 depending on the sighting of the moon. In order for ISM community to plan their days accordingly, the school will recognize Friday, 26th February as the Maulid holiday, and no classes will be held on that day. This day has been planned in the school calendar as such.Safi Circus

ISM will be participating in the trial ISA tests this year next week on Thursday, 28th January. Students in P4, P5, P6, M1 and M3 will be participating.
The actual ISA tests will be held for these levels the following week on Monday, 1st February and Tuesday, 2nd February.Quarter 3 CCAs
The student list for quarter 3 CCAs which begin on Monday, 25th January has been circulated to parents with the email copy of this newsletter.ABRSM Theory Examinations
The next theory examination will be Friday, 5th March. Parents who have registered students should receive an invoice for this test.We are not currently taking registrations for the practical examination in May. Fees

The International Day will be held this year on the Arusha Campus on Saturday, 13th March. It promises to be an extraordinary event. Please keep this day free!Arusha High School Musical

There were parent/student/teacher conferences last Tuesday and Thursday and any feedback on these would be appreciated. It was good to see so many parents' faces on campus. Perhaps next time, we will see even more student participation at these conferences!M4 Personal project evening and Field trip
There will be a Personal Project session for M4 parents and students here on Monday, 25th January at 5 pm in the Performance Area. This session will describe and give advice about the nature of this key component of the MYP.The 'Field Study' trip to West Kili for M4 students in Arusha and Moshi campuses has been postponed from 23rd -25th February to a date yet to be confirmed but likely to be 23rd -25th March. Many apologies for this rescheduling and we are aware that many of you plan ahead for such events. More information will follow as soon as it is finalized. M1 Field Study Trip
The M1 field trip to lakes Eyasi and Manyara is happening from 9-12 February (and so students will have the weekend to rest!). Annette Wood is the leader and she will be accompanied by Éanna O'Boyle from Arusha Campus. More information will be sent to all M1 parents through a letter.M3 and M4 Culinary Celebrations in Technology with Carl Love
The M3 and M4 students took part in an end of unit event this past week - the M3s presented and evaluated their 'World's Best Hamburger' to rave reviews (amongst the teachers anyway) and the M4's shared their 'Delectable Dessert' creations. The events caught the attention of many of the staff and students, and their end products were something to be very proud of. Please do congratulate your M3 or M4 student on their work for this unit. A fine (and tasty!)

Co-Curricular Activities (CCA)Sign up sheets have been collated into the 'Students in Activities List'. This list is posted at school and emailed home. Activities start Monday January 25 to Wednesday March 3: 6 weeks Sports 10's girls football continues on Thursdays from 3:15-4:15pm until February 11. The girls won their first match 3-0 against Braeburn yesterday. Football fixtures against the Future Stars Academy start next Saturday January 30th at TGT. Games will be 1 hour long.
The St. Constantine's Swim Gala is on Saturday February 27th from 9:30-1pm Outdoor Pursuits Sign Up sheets are posted for another round of trips beginning this term:

The students in EC will be identifying the different ways people express themselves using many different types of media. They will explore different art mediums, materials, 2D & 3D sculpture and collage. This unit will promote students individual creativity and expression. In P1/2 the students will be using their research skills of: formulating questions, observing, planning, collecting data, recording data, organizing data, interpreting data to investigate the different reasons people move around the world and the ways they do this. Be prepared to be interviewed!Under the theme of 'How we share the planet', our P3/4 students will be identifying different biomes, how we share resources and our responsibility towards the preservation and protection of our natural environment. Profiles they will be focusing on are being principled and caring. A very exciting period is ahead for our P5/6 students who will have today taken home a notice about their up -coming field study trip to West Kili with our Moshi counterparts. This field study trip will allow them to explore first-hand the impact and sustainability of different types of land use, renewable and non-renewable resources and our access to them. P5/6 parents are invited to attend an information sharing about the field trip next Thursday 28 January at 2,00pm. Congratulations
Our Under 10 Girls Football team: Nicolette, Josephine, Rufaro, Cindy, Tania, Shana, Denise who were victorious against St Constantine's and Braeburn yesterday.
