Security
It seems that there is a dramatic increase in aggravated robberies taking place throughout the area and we would like to express our sympathy to the family of the teacher recently killed in a robbery and to the community of Braeburn. We urge all parents to take care and to avoid dangerous areas of town. The area opposite Kilombero Market and Shoprite has been the scene of a number of opportunistic robberies from cars and there have been some aggravated robberies in various areas of town.
Fees and Surcharges
Fee installments for quarter 4 were due on Monday, March 1st. Please note that late fees will be surcharged on Monday, March 8th.

Please be aware that the school considers the surcharges on late payment as a part of the fee obligation owed by the parent. Non- payment of surcharges is considered as nonpayment of fees and will therefore be handled in the same manner.
International Festival
I would like to encourage as many families from the ISM community to join us on the 13th March. Please note that children must come supervised by an adult and that there will be food and drink for sale at the event.
Car Park
I would like to thank parents for taking more care in the car park and adjusting to the changes implemented in picking up and dropping off students. It has made a huge difference and there is a much safer environment for the children. I ask now if we can please be careful of our speed in the car park.
ISM Cookbook
We are putting together our first ISM Cookbook! The cookbook will be comprised of favourite home and family recipes submitted by our own community. Once assembled the vast variety of recipes will illustrate the myriad of global cultures that our school proudly represents - not to mention the sharing of treasured family recipes across the cultural landscape.
Pool Parties
I would like to remind parents that if they have pool parties on Fridays that they must ensure that there is adequate adult supervision of children. There should be at least one adult for every three children.

Visual Arts with Linda Willms and Samantha Mongardi
On Thursday, 4 March, M5 Visual Arts students brought their latest art works to the Early Childhood (EC) class for viewing and discussion. EC is currently exploring "Media Mania" as their Unit of Inquiry and M5 has been working on the guiding question "How does pattern occur within art work?". The EC students are learning to identify, copy and create patterns, so this was a great opportunity to see examples of different types of patterns in the M5 artwork.

Moodle has well and truly arrived i with Carl Love
What is Moodle?
Moodle is a free, open source online course management system that makes it possible for us to better serve our students, their parents and our community. Essentially it is a piece of software installed on our computer server, as a strong communication and educational tool for students, parents and teachers to use and access at school - and at home through Internet access. (http://moodle.ismac.ac.tz)

So, how do we use Moodle at the International School of Moshi - Arusha? That is a good question! We will try to answer it in the coming months - for now it is a strong communication tool where you can find upcoming events/dates for the school, course outlines and project details for some classes in Secondary, photos of classrooms and major events, and contact details for each teacher (including a photo!) for each course. Over the coming year - we will branch out to more interactive activities and learning experiences such as the ones listed above - come, check it out and grow with us! We feel it is a very powerful, useful and unique tool that only ISM has implemented.

Warm Regards,
Éanna O’Boyle
Head of Secondary

Primary News

P1/2 Field Study Trip
WOW! What a wonderful time was had by all our P1/2 students, teachers and helpers from both campuses! The students would like to thank our parent helpers, drivers and teaches and teaching assistants for sharing in our day of observations, data collecting and recording. Did you know we saw over 150 Buffalo!, Warthogs, Zebra, Giraffe, Reedbuck, Waterbuck, Blue, Vervet and Colobus monkeys and Baboons! We would like to thank the students for their organization and planning of the day.
Share Time Assembly
Thank you to our P3/4 students who hosted Share Time Assembly today, you really did have a wonderful field study camping trip and your knowledge of ‘Biomes’ is amazing. If you missed this share time presentation please come into school and view their well constructed 3D Biomes.
Student Led Celebrations
Portfolios will go home on Wednesday for your viewing pleasure and we invite you to bring them to your scheduled meeting time on Friday. In the inside cover of your child’s portfolio is your scheduled meeting time, if you are unable to make this time please contact your child's class teacher.

A reminder that these student led celebrations are an opportunity for you and your child to celebrate and form a deeper understanding of their learning. Class teachers will be on hand to support the students, observe and monitor student’s interactions, confidence, knowledge and understandings of their learning throughout the process. If you would like to discuss any aspect of your child’s specific progress, I would encourage you to make a separate time to do so with both your child and the class teacher. We look forward to seeing you at school next Friday 12th at your scheduled time.
Co curricular Activities
This quarter our students enjoyed a range of engaging activities that allowed for new knowledge to be gained, creativity to be explored and fitness to be enhanced. I would like to thank our teachers, teaching assistants and parents for supporting this very worthwhile learning experience for our students. If you would like to be apart of the CCA programme in quarter 4 please contact Mr. Charles Schofield or Mrs. Diana Kraft

Warm Regards
Betty Brown
