International School Moshi Arusha Campus News - 19th March 2010
Car park
Thank you to everyone one in the community for helping make the car park a much safer place. Remember the area outside primary and secondary is not for parking - it is for picking up and dropping off. The area alongside administration is a no parking at all times area. This also means it is not for picking up or dropping off students.
PA Minutes
Please note that a copy of the PA minutes is available in a folder in the library. Please ask the librarian to see the folder. The folder should not be removed from the library.
Telephone numbers
It is sometimes difficult to get through to the school on the land lines. In that instance please contact Loise or myself by our mobile numbers. They are:-
Loise 0757 557875
Adrian 0754 740706
Wheel Covers
Remember, if you would like to have an ISM wheel cover for your car they are available from reception free of charge. We are happy to provide one cover per family.
International Festival photos
We are collecting different photographs of the International Festival. We really want to start a collection of as many pictures as we can find of the day. The best one will be published in the Summit magazine with a credit.
Currently the format we are looking for is a horizontal colour picture that will go across two pages of the Summit. We would also welcome other formats for our collection.
Advertising on Campus
If you wish to advertise at school with a poster you must first gain approval from the Head of Campus.
Pool Parties
I would like to remind parents that if they have pool parties on Fridays that they must ensure that there is adequate adult supervision of children. There should be at least one adult for every three children.

After two matinees on Wednesday and Thursday, and an evening performance yesterday, we are building up to the last performance of the High School Musical this evening at 7 at Arusha Campus. Tickets are 5000TSH for adults and 2000TSH for children. It would be great to see everyone’s support on this production in which so many of the Secondary students have been involved as well as teachers. How could you avoid seeing this cast below?
Special thanks to the parents who supplied wonderful refreshments for the hard working cast and crew of the Musical during the past week. It was greatly appreciated.
Shakespeare Season
Just as the High School Musical season is coming to the end, a new one is beginning after the holidays for the Shakespeare Season. The matinee performance will take place on Thursday, 27 and Friday 28, and the evening performance will be on Friday 28 May. The Shakespeare productions involve students from M1 to M4.
Interim Reports
Interim reports go out next Wednesday 24 March. This is a one page report. For each subject, there is an overall grade out 7, an indication of ‘The information in these reports are an overall grade out of 7 for each subject, an indication of ‘Approaches to Learning’ (excellent, good, satisfactory or unsatisfactory), and a comment from the teacher. Quarter 3 ends on Friday, 26 March.
M4 Field Study Trip to West Kilimanjaro with Andrew VanderMeulen and Carl Love
The M4 class has its eyes set on West Kilimanjaro from Tuesday March 23 to Thursday March 25 where they will be studying weather and climate, agriculture, and the fragile environments surrounding them. Guided by teachers from ISM Moshi and our very own Mr. Love and Mr. VanderMeulen, the group will be hosted at the lovely Simba Farm where they will be able to investigate, collaborate, study, and reflect in tranquility.
A Technology request from Carl Love
For home and school communications, it is important to note that our campus ‘officially’ works and runs off of Microsoft Office 2003 (not Office 2007 with for example Microsoft Word .docx file formats).
At times, it can be difficult for staff and students trying to convert 2007 versions of files to 2003 versions. All of the computers on campus have Office 2003 installed, with only a few holding the 2007 version. Further, it should be noted that Office 2007 has a much higher demand on individual computers memory and therefore performance - in effect slowing your computer down. Perhaps something to consider even for your home computers. We hope this does not cause any great inconvenience, but is important that the school community is well aware of how we operate at the school.
Co-Curricular Activities
Sign up for the Quarter 4 session takes place next Monday-Wednesday. Activities start on Monday April 19 to Wednesday May 26. Anyone interested in offering an activity please contact me directly.
Outdoor Pursuits
Those signed up for the level 1 trip got a letter today. This trip is Saturday April 17-Sunday 18.
Sports
Congratulations to all swimmers and coaches and thank you to parents for coming out and supporting Team ISM. Medals and certificates will be presented before the end of this Quarter.
The whole school house Sports Day is on Friday March 26 from 8-12pm. Students will take part in relays in hockey, football and netball from 8-10:30 and matches in football and netball for the duration.

P3/4 People Helping People
Next week our P3/4 students will be visiting Shanga House, Plaster House and a local Orphanage. Each of these establishments teach and care for people in our community who are in need of some form of support. The students have begun their inquiry by identifying people they know who help others.
P5/6 Exhibition & Authors and Artists
As our P6 students begin their in depth planning, research, investigations and actions aimed at their presentation of their PYP Exhibition our P5 students will be working on their unit of inquiry about how through language and the arts people express themselves in ways that elicit powerful responses and emotions. Next quarter our P6 students will be working with mentors and resource people in our community to share and celebrate their knowledge and understanding of how the media is a powerful tool, which impacts on our perception of the world around us. The PYP Exhibition will be shared on Friday 28th May - Mark your calendar for this very memorable event. To find out more about what the PYP Exhibition is have a look at the PYP Exhibition page on Moodle!
