Moshi Primary News - 15 December 06

  Dear Parents,

It is with regret that we have to say goodbye to a number of our Primary students at the end of this term. If you are leaving us we wish you the very best for your continuing educational journey whichever country it is going to happen in. We hope that the time you have spent at ISM Primary School has been enjoyable and challenging for you.

On Friday December 22nd we will also be saying goodbye to Megan Wallace who has completed her final teaching practicum with Mrs. Jen in the P1/2 class. Megan will have spent eight weeks with the class and I would like to thank her for the commitment and dedication she has shown during this time. I wish her every success as she returns to the U.S.A. and begins her teaching career - it is sure to be a good one!

Bake Sale

Today’s bake sale was a huge success and we raised Tsh.106,000 (before costs) which has paid for the new shoe racks that are outside each of the primary classrooms. I would like to thank all of the parents and students who baked cakes and biscuits at home for the bake sale. Special thanks are also given to Daniel Lofquist who baked chocolate brownies with the P3/4 class, Marlene du Pisani who baked flapjacks with the P5/6 class and Lynda Newman who baked Gingerbread Men with the Kindergarten class. Not forgetting Mrs. Jen and Megan who baked cup cakes with the P1/2 class. As there were some cakes left over I have frozen them and will sell them at a small bake sale on Monday December 18th at 10.15am in the breezeway!

Spirit Week - Monday December 18th to Thursday December 21st

The secondary Student Council has organized that next week will be Spirit Week at ISM. Primary students are encouraged to take part in the dress arrangements for each day, which are as follows:
  • Monday - Tanzanian
  • Tuesday - Pyjamas
  • Wednesday - Pink and black
  • Thursday - Mis-match day
If your child does not dress in the style mentioned above on the appropriate day then s/he must wear their ISM polo shirt as they would for every other school day.

After School Clubs

Primary after school clubs have now finished for the term. However, as some of the students are performing various items in the end of term assembly the following club leaders have asked if they can have some extra practice times next week.
  • Mrs. Jen would like the students that go to her Jump Rope club to come for an extra practice on Monday December 18th from 2pm to 2.50pm.
  • Mr. Jones will have his Choir members for their final practice on Monday December 18th from 3pm to 4pm (as mentioned in my newsletter of 4/12/2006).
  • Jana would like the students who attend her Modern Dance club for extra practices on Tuesday December 19th and Wednesday December 20th from 2-3pm.
I would like to thank everyone that has organized and led a club for the primary students during this term. The students and myself are very grateful to you for giving your time and energy to them. We are so pleased that so many of you will continue with your club after the holidays.

After the Christmas vacation I shall be planning the schedule for the following two terms. The students will choose their clubs during the first week of term two and these choices will then be valid for both terms two and three. Primary Clubs will therefore start on Monday January 22nd and will continue until Thursday May 31st.

I have had some additional offers from adults to run clubs for the next two terms, namely, Tim Leinbach who has offered to run ‘American Gym and Recess Games’ and Mr. Eaton who has offered to run a ‘Skateboard Club’. Suki Mudher will also resume her Patchwork club for P5/6 girls and Ms. Patricia will have a ‘Batik and Tie-dye club’ for P5/6. I look forward to all these clubs beginning and would ask you to advise me by e-mail if you would like to organize a club for primary students on any day, Monday to Thursday, for the last 18 weeks of the school year.

Volunteer in Primary

Mrs. Jen and Mrs. Sarah would like to say a special thank you to Lynda Newman for all the assistance that she has provided to them during the last term.

Mid Year Reports

As previously advised the students will receive their reports on Wednesday December 20th. Class teachers will be available on Thursday December 21st and Friday December 22nd after school to discuss the report with you if you have any concerns. Please make an appointment directly with the class teacher. In the envelope you will receive a letter and two copies of the final page of the report. We ask that you use the questions on the letter to assist you with making some comments regarding your child’s report and that you return one of the copies to your child’s class teacher by Friday December 22nd.

End of Term Assembly

Please do not forget that the end of term assembly is on December 21st at 11am in Karibu Hall. Kindergarten students will stay at school on that day until the assembly is finished. We hope that you can all join us for Music, Dance, Jump Rope and Special Certificates.

End of Term and New Term Dates

This school term ends at 12.35pm on Friday December 22nd for the primary students. School resumes for all students on Tuesday January 16th at 7.30am.

Lost Property

There is still a large quantity of lost property at school and I am sure that if you take a look you are likely to find something that you have misplaced. In view of this we will display all the lost property on Monday and Tuesday next week between 11.30am and 3pm (weather permitting). If things are not claimed this time then they will be cleaned and passed on as Christmas gifts to the Amani Street Children’s Centre.

Magazines and Material

Thank you for the magazines received so far but we would love to receive many more. So if you have any old magazines or left over pieces of material that are no longer required by yourself please send them in to school as we are very short of both of these.

I hope you all have a great holiday.

Regards
Mrs Kathy Slocombe
