Malaria: Preventable Threat |

INTRODUCTION Carlotta, Judith and Lillian, we are the representatives of the M1 class from the International School Moshi in Tanzania, at the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. The topic we have worked on, in English class, during the past few months is Malaria, a deadly disease caused by mosquitoes. We chose Malaria as our topic, because here in East Africa malaria kills thousands of people per year. Many of us have experienced this viral disease and, luckily, we survived it with help of proper medical treatment. However, many people do not get this treatment and have to suffer, just because they can not afford malaria medication. Especially, people in villages and children between the ages of 1-5 do not have the chance get treated properly in East Africa. We had a few interviews with different people, including doctors, researcher, malaria patients and villegers and we had a field trip outside Moshi too see what damage malaria causes. This disease is totally preventable, it could be wiped out all together, and yet many people keep dying.
This was a very interesting project that brought not only us, but also our classmates and our teacher Miss Tukhtaeva too see how lives in Kilimanjaro region are being affected by this dreadful disease, malaria, and that if we work together we can find a solution to make the world a better place. All of our class members have worked very hard for this project, sadly Jens, who was also a representative, had to leave Tanzania before we could finish the project. We would like to thank everyone who helped and encouraged us from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you
