Mandara is the first hut on the main tourist route on Kilimanjaro at a height of about 2800m. The overnight trip to stay in the huts there is an excellent starter trip for students new to the OP programme. The walk is mainly through the forest on the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro and there are some excellent views across Kenya to the east when it is not as foggy as it was on this trip in October 1999.
