John Iglar, Head of Secondary, Maths Teacher, John is American
Helen Iglar, Primary Teacher, Helen is Irish

Hamjambo from the Iglar family! We are delighted to be joining ISM and are looking forward to our move to Arusha.

John: I grew up in Chicago, but have traveled widely, working as a maths and computer teacher in Louisiana, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Kenya, Indonesia and Zambia. I have enjoyed teaching students from pre-school to college level. I am currently working as Primary School Head at The Banner School in Frederick, Maryland, a private school outside Washington, DC. When I'm not in a classroom or office, I enjoy drama and publications, photography & videography, especially taking photos of my daughter!

Helen: I was born in Uganda and grew up in Kenya, and then went to Oxford University in the UK where I earned my degrees and PGCE. John and I met whilst working at ISK in Nairobi where I was teaching fifth grade and was also a science specialist. Since then I have taught fifth grade in international schools in Jakarta and Lusaka. Whilst living in Maryland I have taken classes in stained glass, ceramics and photography, and have enjoyed being a full time mum to our daughter, Nadia. I also love reading, cooking and travelling and am very much looking forward to our return to East Africa.

Nadia, 3, is eager to be joining ISM's Kindergarten class and learning lots of new things. She loves music, reading, dancing and climbing and helping to keep mummy & daddy smiling all the time.

Christine de Dobbelaere, Librarian, Christine is Dutch

In the Netherlands I studied physiotherapy. In 1978 I came to Tanzania and married Paul van de Vijver. We have three daughters, Francien, Heleen and Leonie. The first two daughters were born in KCMC Moshi and the youngest in Machame. After their education at ISM in Arusha and IB in Moshi all three daughters are now studying in Holland. During these years I worked with my husband and had a part time job with KLM at KIA (Kilimanjaro International Airport). For the last few years I have been taking a primary school teaching course and I obtained a B.Ed at Inholland college, Oegstgeest. I am now looking forward to the new challenge, of being a librarian at ISMAC.
