ISM's Outdoor Pursuits programme offers many mountain trips at varying levels and only students with proven ability may join the climb to Uhuru Peak, the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, and the highest point in Africa. Unlike most tourists who climb unencumbered, our students carry a full pack and need to combat altitude sickness. To reach Gilman's Point at 5681m or Uhuru Peak at 5895m is a major achievement. On this most recent trip in November 2002. 16 of the 18 students participating successfully reached Uhuru Peak in exceptionally good weather. |
