from the Governing Board

We hope you are enjoying your first days of vacation with your children.
At the end of last quarter, the Governing Board met for the second meeting of the 2018/19 school year. At this meeting we welcomed the new Arusha PTA representative to the board, Michel Allard. We received updates from the Advancement office and the Arusha building project, the audited accounts for the year 2017/18 and the fees were set for 2019/20.

School fees 2019/20

The Governing Board agreed an inflationary increase on the school fees. The fees will be published on the school website and are shown below alongside the current fees. These are the rates for tuition and residential fees paid in four equal quarterly installments. Paying the yearly fee by 1st July 2019 will attract a 5% discount. All fees are stated in US Dollars. Payments in Tanzanian Shillings are accepted according to the prevailing exchange rate, quoted on the school website.

Arusha construction project

We are happy to confirm that the project to build a 40-bed student residence on Arusha campus with associated communal area and staff houses is on track for completion by August 2019.

ISM 50th Anniversary celebrations

On 24th October 2019, our school will reach its 50th anniversary. Mwegelo Kapinga, Advancement Officer, is coordinating the Alumni weekend on 26-28 July 2019 and the 50th Anniversary celebrations. More information on both events can be found on the school website.
On behalf of the entire Governing board, we wish you a joyful festive season and a peaceful and happy 2019.

Invitation to Julie Thaarup’s Funeral
Arusha Campus 1 month ago

Dear all,
It is with love and humble acceptance of God’s will that the family of Julie Thaarup invites friends, church members, her school community and all who loved Julie to attend her funeral service on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Arusha Community Church.

The funeral will begin at 9:00 am. Please plan to arrive by 8:30 am. ACC shares grounds with Arusha Lutheran Medical Center and a hospital event will occupy the parking lot of the church on Saturday morning. Thus, we ask you to ride together with others or use taxis to minimize the number of vehicles.

Following the funeral service, the cortege will leave ACC to travel to the family home of Julie’s husband, Manase Swai, at Machame, where the burial will take place at 3 pm.

Please keep holding Julie’s family in prayers in this difficult time of sorrow.
Yours in Christ,
Rebecca Mosley, for Arusha Community Church

Important Joseph Production Update
Moshi Campus 1 month ago

Dear Parents,
If any of you were lucky enough to catch today’s Joseph rehearsal then you will know that we are in for a musical treat on Thursday and Friday. The energy on the stage and in the chorus was amazing. I do hope you will be able to attend. Tickets will be on sale on the door (10,000 Tsh for adults and 5000 Tsh for children.)

If your child is participating as an actor, musician, stage hand or PYP chorus member please ensure they are at K Hall at 5:30 pm on both Thursday and Friday evening.

The performance will end at 8:00pm. The children should eat a meal before they arrive so that they have enough energy to last the evening. The PYP chorus should wear their Joseph T-shirts (which look wonderful.)
There will be an intermission halfway through the performance and snacks will be on sale. There will also be a lovely commemorative programme on sale at the event.

I will write my thanks in this week’s newsletter but I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the students, staff, parents and community members who have helped with this event. The buzz on campus has been wonderful. I look forward to seeing you on Thursday and/or Friday evening to support our children.

Dear ISM Arusha Community,
It is with great sadness that I inform you that one of our parents, Mrs Julie Thaarup, died on Friday 30th November. I understand that this was sudden but followed a period of feeling unwell.
Julie is survived by her son Marcus in P3 and husband Manase. Our thoughts and prayers are with Julie’s family at this difficult time.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Phil

ISTA Theatre Festival
Arusha Campus 1 month ago

We are delighted to announce that ISM Arusha Campus will be hosting an International Schools Theatre Association (ISTA) festival from 10th-12th May, 2019. ISTA is a fantastic organisation which brings professional actors and directors to work with students over three days to create a final performance. Schools will be coming from all over the world. If your son/daughter is interested in drama and theatre, this is an opportunity which should not be missed!

Please see the website for more details: There is also a video available, which gives more insight, here:

We are hosting a middle school festival which will be aimed at 10-14 year olds. The cost for participating students from our school will be approximately 600,000tsh, which includes all of the workshops, transportation to and from trips, and food, plus a t-shirt. We will also require Arusha Campus students who take part to host two students from visiting schools. This will most likely be from 9th-12th May. During this time, some of their meals will be provided by school.

Arusha families who are hosting will need to provide some meals for their visiting students as well as transportation to and from school for rehearsals (which your Arusha students will also be attending).

We have 20-30 places available for each campus and these will be filled on a first come, first served basis. If you would like to register your child(ren), please email Miss Arora (Arusha Campus) at and George Juma (Moshi Campus)

We are so excited about this amazing opportunity!
